AmeriCorps Member Spotlight

Devyn Hallamore

Devyn’s two years as an AmeriCorps member helped her become a better listener, expand her network and build relationships. From 2021–2023, she served at Deer Flat Urban National Wildlife Refuge near Nampa, co-designing events with the surrounding communities to increase visitation at Deer Flat. The refuge is part of the Urban Wildlife Conservation Program, a nationwide program within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intended to expand outdoor recreation and education for Americans living in and around cities. It strives to dismantle historic barriers to access and make all visitors feel welcome. Outside of gaining experience, this AmeriCorps position also married the two fields of study. Devyn was especially interested in: conservation and diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) work. She had assumed that when she graduated, she would need to choose one or the other to pursue, but this position focused on both.
